Does anyone actually remember or appreciate the days before political correctness?  I just can't see having to apologize or make excuses for one's behavior if in the media's eye.  Maybe I've just never experienced any form of racism or gender-biasing that has affected me to the point that I have to complain (although I was born blonde, does that count?) the below article set me off a little.  Commercials get pulled, celebrities have to go to rehab for comments that draw negative public attention and watch-dog groups get up-in-arms over the most minor slight. 

I'm tired of it.  When did we, as a country, stop recognizing our First Amendment right to free speech?   Last I heard, it wasn't a crime to have an opinion either.   I'm really not picking on GLAAD in particular, they just happen to be jumping onto the nearest soapbox and barking their protest over something I consider so insignificant that it doesn't require the waste of words.  I don't condone racism, homophobia or any -ism or phobia, but I don't believe every little comment requires an apology or even a bullet point.

If the knock had been at expense of straight, middle-aged, bald white males with toupees would it still be an issue? Would hair-rights advocates jump on the bandwagon? Would the chrome-dome nation flood the press circuit expressing their anguish? Is Will Smith's career over?  Will he have to go to counseling to get over his scripted homophobia?  Will Hancock be renamed to Foot Penis?  Tune in next week for a new episode of Mope.

Hancock Makers Accused Of Homophobia

Will Smith's new movie Hancock has been accused of homophobia by gay rights campaigners.

Bosses at The Gay + Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) allege a scene in the superhero movie takes a "cheap, unfunny shot at gay people".

The offending scene involves Smith's washed up crime fighter dismissing other superhero images, saying, "Homo. Homo in red. Norwegian Homo."

GLAAD chiefs claim "the slur sends a message that it's okay to discriminate against gay people".

Representatives for Columbia Pictures, the studio behind the movie, have refused to comment.

Much like the American Family Association's OneNewsNow changing Tyson Gay's last name to homosexual because of a standard practice which does so. I'm sure it's just something in the software, but still...

Of course the first amendment only protects us against governmental interference. Special interest groups are allowed, and expected, to try to limit the speech of people who they disagree with.

I just get so frustrated that every little minor comment or nibble gets such focused attention from these special interest groups. It discredits the group and demerits their cause when every little thing is under a microscope.

Besides, superheroes do look really homo in those leotards and tights. :)
